The Community and Outreach Services Unit is central to the School’s mission of providing eye care services to underserved populations. This unit organizes outreach programs aimed at delivering critical eye care services, including vision screening, eye exams, and referrals for treatment in rural and underserved communities within the Central Region of Ghana.
Students are actively involved in these outreach programs, participating in supervised externships that provide real-world experience in diagnosing and treating common eye conditions. This hands-on experience is essential for bridging the gap between classroom learning and clinical practice.
The unit also coordinates with local health authorities and international organizations to ensure the sustainability of eye care programs in the region. By partnering with local communities and organizations, the unit enhances public awareness about the importance of eye care and works to reduce the incidence of preventable blindness and visual impairment.
