Clinical Training and Services Unit

The Clinical Training and Services Unit is dedicated to coordinating the clinical education of students while providing essential eye care services to both the university community and its surrounding areas. This unit plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of eye care professionals, ensuring students gain practical experience in primary and specialized eye care.

Currently, the unit oversees the operations of two on-campus eye clinics: one located at the North Campus in the Main Science Complex (New Site), and the other at the South Campus (Old Site) at the University of Cape Coast Eye Clinic. Additionally, the unit manages an off-campus clinic at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU). These clinics serve as primary training venues where students can apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world situations under the guidance of experienced faculty.

Patient care is the unit’s top priority. The clinics provide a comprehensive range of services, from routine eye exams to specialized treatments such as contact lens fittings, low vision management, and glaucoma screenings. The unit also partners with the Eye and Vision Research Centre to offer advanced diagnostic services to patients. Moreover, it is accredited to conduct eye examinations for individuals applying for driver's licenses through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), broadening its service outreach and impact.
