School of Optometry Honors Outstanding Graduates at 57th Convocation Ceremony
The School of Optometry and Vision Science took part in the 57th Congregation Ceremony on the 11th December, 2024, a grand celebration marking the academic and professional achievements of its graduating class. The ceremony, held at UCC NEC auditorium brought together faculty, students, families, and dignitaries to honor the hard work and dedication of the graduates.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to exceptional students who distinguished themselves in various fields of academic and professional excellence.
Award Recipients:
- Dr. Emmanuel Adator: Recognized as the Best Male Student for achieving the highest cumulative GPA among his peers.
- Dr. Gideon Owusu: Honored for achieving the Highest Average Score in Research and Project Work, reflecting his exemplary dedication to advancing knowledge.
- Dr. Amoabeng Nathaniel: Celebrated for his Outstanding Leadership Qualities and High Impact, as well as his remarkable Community Service and Outreach Contributions.
- Dr. Justicia Ama Tetteh: Awarded as the Best Female Student with the highest cumulative GPA and recognized as the Best Student in Contact Lenses.
- Dr. Richmond Amponsah: Acknowledged for excelling in Low Vision and Rehabilitation Courses, achieving the highest scores in this specialty area.
- Dr. Kelvin Osei Owusu: Commended for demonstrating a Consistent High Level of Clinical Skills and Patient Management, showcasing his exceptional capabilities in clinical practice. Also Outstanding in Professionalism and Ethical Conduct.
The Dean of the School of Optometry, Professor Stephen Ocansey commended the graduates for their resilience and commitment to academic excellence. “The accomplishments of our awardees exemplify the caliber of professionals we are proud to send into the world. Their achievements reflect not only individual brilliance but also a dedication to making a difference,” he remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Johnson Nyarko Boampong, also extended his congratulations, emphasizing the vital role optometrists play in improving vision care and community health. "Our graduates have proven their readiness to make meaningful contributions to society, and we are proud of their achievements," he said.
The convocation ended on a jubilant note as graduates, faculty, and families celebrated this significant milestone.
