Professor Stephen Ocansey Appointed to National Technical Working Group on Eye Health Policy and Diabetic Retinopathy Strategy

The School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS), is proud to announce the selection of its Dean, Professor Stephen Ocansey, as a member of the Ministry of Health (MoH) Expert Technical Working Group (TWG) tasked with validating Ghana’s National Eye Health Policy and the National Diabetic Retinopathy Strategy.

This national assignment recognises Prof. Ocansey’s leadership in optometric education, clinical training, research, and eye health systems development in Ghana and across the African region. The Technical Working Group comprises experts drawn from academia, clinical practice, public health, and policy institutions to provide technical guidance and ensure that the policy frameworks align with national health priorities and global best practices.

The validation of the National Eye Health Policy and Diabetic Retinopathy Strategy represents a significant milestone in strengthening Ghana’s eye care delivery system, addressing avoidable blindness, and enhancing structured prevention and management of diabetic eye disease.

Prof. Ocansey’s participation underscores SOVS-UCC’s continued commitment to national development, evidence-informed policy engagement, and advancing excellence in optometric education and eye health research.
